History

Kampot Pepper is a hot condiment or seasoning made from the ground dried berries of a tropical climbing plant. Pepper production in Cambodia is known since the XIIth century, but Kampot pepper reputation was particularly developed during the early XXth. Its high-gastronomy quality is well acknowledged in Europe. Its flavour and its pugnacity makes of this pepper one of the best in the world.
Beside this historical and cultural heritage, the particular character of Kampot pepper is related to the agro-ecological conditions of the area. Climate, in particular, is influenced by the proximity of the coast, which has a lowering effect on temperatures.
